Jesuit Mission to the Hurons

In 1728 a mission to the Huron Indians was established near Fort Pontchartrain (Detroit) by Father Armand de la Richardie, S.J. The mission was moved to Bois Blanc Island and the adjacent mainland in 1742. In 1747 it was destroyed by disaffected Hurons. Erected by the Ontario Archaeological and Historic Sites Board.

 
Jesuit Missionaries Cross
Location: Located at the northeast corner of Huron Church and Riverside Drive

The original cross was erected by the Jesuit Missionaries, and was re-enacted at the Old Boys Reunion August 1909.This permanent cross was erected by the Border Cities Old Boys in August 1922

 
AFT Mast
Location: Assumption Park

This 114 foot pole was originally the AFT Mast from the Merchant Ship Vedas (1925-1937), formerly HMS Shearwater and HMCS Shearwater (1901-1925). The Mast, made of one single fir tree, was originally erected in Mic Mac Park in 1937, and then relocated to Assumption Park. The Aft Mast was donated to Windsor’s Department of Parks and Recreation by Joseph Kovinsky in memory of his late wife Anne.

Location: Located at the foot of Campbell between Riverside Drive and the Detroit River.

1867 - 1967

Centennial of Confederation Windsor Centennial Park

Erected by the City of Windsor in permanent commemoration of the Centennial of Confederation in Canada in 1967. Construction was made possible through the co-operation of the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.

Erected in Canada's Centennial Year of 1967. Buried beneath this rock lies a time capsule to be opened in the Year 2067.

 
 
International Waterway Marker
Location: Between Riverside Drive and parking lot on the hill

Installed by the US Corps of Engineers as an international waterway marker on the Detroit River
